There is a lot you can do this summer to get ready for 4th grade!

The most important thing you can do is READ!...lots of good books!

Your summer reading assignments for 4th grade are attached along with some suggestions for
finding some really good books in the libraries and bookstores.  Don’t wait until August to get
started!  Find a good book, a shady tree, relax and enjoy the wonderful world of books!

       Your summer reading assignments include:

Mr. Popper’s Penguins by Richard Atwater( we will discuss this in class the first few weeks of school)

At least one other book of your choice

Keeping a Reading Journal about the books you read.

You will need a 70-page spiral notebook. (We will be using this

notebook all year for our SSR reading)

Write in your reading journal often while reading your books…don’t wait until you finished a book to write.  If the book makes you laugh, write about it!  If the story seems sad, tell why and what you thought?  If you learned something you didn’t know, write it down.    Write in the title and the author of the books you write about.  Be sure to date each entry in your journal.  Bring your journal to class the first week of school.

*Choose at least one book from the list of suggested titles

attached.  This should be a book you have not read before.

*Design a colorful, interesting poster ( no longer than 12”x 18”) for the book

you chose.

*Include: Title, author, and illustrator

*Write a brief summary of the book. (Not a book report…just enough     interesting information so that someone in class would want to read it!)
