CHILDREN’S RELIGIOUS
EDUCATION CLASSES D atechism
The program starts with kindergarten - 8th grade.
The catechesis of St. John's responsibility is to assist the parents in their responsibility to raise their child in the faith by reinforcing what is already being taught and lived in the home. Our classes are age appropriate, characteristics of development stages, and starts with God as creator of all and Jesus as the teacher of our way of life. It presents the Bible as God's Living Word.
They will learn about the need for Prayer and Worship, the Sacraments, and the Salvation History. As Jesus grew in wisdom and grace, so do we as His children. Our classes are held September through May.
Religious Education for Elementary School and Middle School
The mission of the Religious Education program is to partner with parents in the religious formation of their children's spiritual, emotional, social and religious education needs. The greatest gift we give our children is their Catholic heritage. Their ongoing growth in the knowledge of their faith and how to live it out is crucial in developing a life-long commitment to an active sacramental life. As such, children should participate in classes from Kindergarten through High School.
Catholic elementary schools offer vibrant religious education programs grounded in Catholic teachings and rich in Catholic tradition. The religion program includes religion education classes, sacramental preparation, liturgical and prayer experiences, and opportunities for Christian witness and service. The Catholic elementary schools in the Norwich Diocese are also proud of their strong academic programs that incorporate instruction in all the subject areas including the fine arts and physical education/health. Technology is woven into the instructional program. In addition, most schools offer a variety of rich extra-curricular experiences.

.
Faith-Based Education
In the Catholic Church, parents are responsible for nurturing the seeds of faith given to their children in Baptism. There is no better place to plant a seed than in good soil and that is exactly what happens when a child attends a Catholic school. Our schools are the fertile soil where academics and faith may develop as children grow into teenagers and later adults.
Catholic schools are different because they are faith-based. What does that mean? God and prayer are a natural part of every day. The morals and values our children receive are firmly rooted in the teachings of the Gospel. Our children are taught how to address ethical concerns in relation to God. They are taught that responsibilities to oneself and others, high expectations, and civility come from the fundamental belief that we are all children of God and worthy of such endeavors. The schools help with the whole development of the child: mind, body and soul.
