Tina Green Pre- Kindergarten

The Pre-kindergarten program ar St. John School offers children the opportunity to develop and grow while in a Catholic environment. Jennifer Clark Kindergarten

 

St. John Kindergarten offers a curriculum integrated with traditional Catholic values.  The classroom is a structured nurturing environment where children can learn and grow.  Children are taught to show kindness and respect to others.  The challenging curriculum areas include: Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science.  Students attend special classes in computer, music, Spanish, art and gym. To view the Kindergarten program, please click here.  

 

Joanne Janicki 1st Grade

Shortly after Saint John's School reopened 15 years ago, Mrs. Janicki and her family became part of the Saint John community. Mrs. Janicki began teaching, Mr. Janicki coached our first Saint John soccer team, Ed, Adam, and Kate were enrolled as students. Ed, Adam, and Kate graduated from Saint John's, went on to Xavier and Mercy.  They are now college grads. (Kate will graduate this year as a national Honor Society Member at UConn).  Mrs. Janicki enjoys cooking, hiking, gardening, kayaking, and gathering with friends and family. She also enjoys collecting Norman Rockwell plates and postcards from around the world. Her favorite place to visit is the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  Please click here.  
 
 
 Sister Gabriel 2nd Grade

This is Sister Gabriel's third year at St. John's.  She is also the new CCD Coordinator.  She is originally from Pennsylvania and later Cape Cod.  She loves the beach, fishing, drawing, watching and feeding birds, animals, and teaching.  To read about the Grade 2 curriculum, please click here
  
 
Faythe Papp 3rd Grade

Mrs. Papp lives in Westbrook, CT with her husband Roger, her daughter Mary, and Diamond, Mary’s Cat. She enjoys family activities with St. Mark Church and the Westbrook Junior Colonial Fife and Drum Corp. Her favorite activities are water sports, tennis, skiing, hiking, and summer reading at the beach. She loves teaching her eager 3rd graders, and being part of St. John School since 1996! Her goal is to; “Teach Children to Choose The Right Path, and When They are older, They Will Remain Upon It!” (Pslam 127;6).  To read about the Grade 3 curriculum, please click here. 

 
Mary Jane Fisher 4th Grade

Katie Maher 5th Grade

Andrew Pearson 6th Grade

Mr. Andrew Pearson joined the faculty at Saint John School the second year after it reopened.  Previously, Mr. Pearson was on the staff at Saint James School in Danielson, Connecticut.  There, in addition to teaching middle school science and social studies, he also taught mathematics.  Currently, Mr. Pearson is the sixth grade homeroom teacher where he enjoys teaching religion along with middle school history and science.  He is the longtime Girl’s Varsity Basketball Coach.

 

Mr. Pearson was educated at Eastern Connecticut State University and Providence College.   


 
Mary Sorensen 7th Grade  and  6th, 7th & 8th Grade Math

Mrs. Mary Sorensen has been teaching for a long time, 24 years, starting her career in the New York City Public School System as a Grade 6 teacher.  She graduated from Hunter College in New York City and did graduate studies at Yeshiva University, also in New York City. She took a leave of absence to care for her 5 children. She returned to teaching, first working in the Westbrook School System, and then accepting a position here at Saint John School.  Currently, she is the math teacher for grades 6, 7, and 8, with her homeroom being grade 7. She oversees the middle school math program, and has added enrichment groups in Grades 7 and 8. She also has continued the Math Counts program  which meets weekly. In addition to teaching math, she also teaches Literature to Grade 6 and Religion to Grade 7.

Amy Uliano     8th Grade and 6th, 7th & 8th Grade Language Arts

Mrs. Uliano has been with Saint John School since 2006.  Prior to joining Saint John School, she was at Portland High School in Portland and at Saint Joseph School in Norwich.  She graduated from the University of Connecticut.  Currently, she is the 8th Grade Advisor and oversees all activities related to the 8th Grade - Class Trip, Graduation, Class Night Ceremonies, Retreat and the 8th Grade Homeroom.  In addition, Mrs. Uliano teaches Middle School English and 7th and 8th Grade Language Arts.

Jane Kennedy Librarian

St. John School welcomes Mrs. Kennedy to her second year as the school’s first certified teacher/librarian. The goal of Mrs. Kennedy’s library program is to foster information literate students, who can access needed information effectively and efficiently. Grades pre-kindergarten through 5th are instructed in library and information skills; grades 6 through 8 receive additional instruction in study strategy skills and reference resources, enabling students to meet the demands of future high school library media centers. Mrs. Kennedy holds a Master of Science in Education from Southern Connecticut State University.

Maria Scherber - Spanish

Mrs. Scherber has been with St. John since 2005.  Prior to that she was living in Ecuador where she is from.  Currently she is K-8 Spanish teacher.  Mrs. Scherber loves the transition from the elementary to middle school classes.  It’s what makes her teaching enjoyable.  She likes animals, specially chickens and cats.  She wishes to have a big farm someday.  Teaching for “Senora” is to share with her students her knowledge and passion of the Spanish culture and language. 

 
 
 
Gary Stevens - Art

            Mr. Stevens is not only the current art and math resources teach at St. John School, but he is also an alumnus.  Mr. Stevens graduated from the school in 1998, after which he graduated from Xavier High School.  When Mr. Stevens graduated from Assumption College in 2006, he was the first and only student of the institution to complete the art education program.

            Mr. Stevens grew up in Chester, Ct, but now lives in Westbrook.  He enjoys drawing, painting, animation, creative writing, drumming, cooking and the sea.  Mr. Stevens is proud to be back at his old school teaching the subject he loves to the next generation of St. John students.
